Protecting yourself and your information when reporting anomalous phenomena
Security First: These guidelines help protect your identity, safety, and the integrity of your submission. Always avoid sharing Personal Identifiable Information (PII). Use a pseudonym or codeword in all submission forms.
When submitting information about anomalous phenomena, Operational Security (OPSEC) helps protect both you and the integrity of your report. These practices prevent unintended disclosure of sensitive details that could compromise your safety or the investigation.
Before You Submit
Do NOT include real personal information
- No real name, address, phone number, workplace, or contacts
- Use a pseudonym or a short codeword you can recognize later
- Never upload IDs, badges, uniforms, or workplace documents
Personal Safety First
- Ensure you are in a safe location before documenting
- Do not put yourself at physical risk for documentation
- Avoid returning to potentially dangerous locations
Device Security
- Ensure your device is password protected
- Disable location services for photos if concerned
- Use secure communication methods for transmission
Documenting Evidence Securely
Photography & Video
- Avoid capturing your face, your vehicle, or home surroundings
- Remove metadata from media before uploading
- Use timestamp settings for accuracy
Location Information
- Share general location unless precise coordinates are critical
- Never share your current live location
Identity Protection & Pseudonyms
Avoid Personal Identifying Information (PII)
- Do not include your real name, address, workplace, or any PII in the submission form.
- Use a pseudonym or codeword of your choice. This is recommended even for low‑risk submissions.
- If you want follow‑up contact, specify your preferred communication method using a burner email or anonymous messaging account.
Choosing a Follow‑Up Contact Method
Burner Reddit Account
- Use for casual follow‑ups or low‑risk sightings.
- Create using: no phone number, no personal email, VPN recommended.
- Share only your Reddit username in the submission form.
Signal
- Best for high‑privacy conversations.
- Use a number not tied to your identity (VoIP/secondary SIM).
- Mention your Signal handle only if you want encrypted follow‑up.
Burner Email (ProtonMail / Tuta)
- Good for medium‑risk or detailed evidence submissions.
- Create with no personal recovery info.
- Share only the burner address in the form.
How to Create a Burner Reddit Account
- Open a private browser window or Tor Browser
- Create a new ProtonMail/TutaMail burner email
- Go to Reddit and sign up using the burner email
- Do not add a phone number
- Do not join personal-interest subreddits
- Use it only for communication related to your submission
